Week 5 Saturday Thoughts
Make sure to check out the Saturday Results - updated all day Saturday!
I just got around to checking the polls mid-week and I did so after reading a rant by Doug Lesmerises of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. He noted that the coaches poll CLICK HERE FOR LATEST POLLS and the Harris poll BOTH had Penn State ranked ahead of Iowa! That is ridiculous as Iowa is unbeaten and beat Penn St AT Penn St and the Lions 3 wins were over creampuffs. Iowa deserves to be in the top 10 and Penn St maybe at the bottom of the top 20. Good call Doug.
Miscellaneous Thoughts:
Heisman – Tebow and McCoy still lead the pack but there are some players that have entered the mix and with injuries to Bradford and now Tebow… so you never know!
NFL – Last year only TWO NFL division champs repeated. This year 5 of last year’s division champs have a combined record of 2-13 after 3 weeks! Carolina, Miami and Tennessee are all 0-3. Pittsburgh and Arizona are each 1-2. It looks like another year of change in the parity driven NFL.
Suspension - Texas Tech suspended star G Brandon Carter last weekend.
Bama – QB Greg McElroy of Alabama completed only 6 of 18 passes in the first half vs Virginia Tech but since then he has hit 57 of 75 (76%) for 844 yards and 7 TD’s and he is #3 in the nation in pass efficiency.
The Upset Poll – The upset poll is off to its usual solid season. Michigan gets the call this week with 50.5% of the vote. Georgia Tech is #2 with 9.9% and Ole Miss is #3 with 7.6% of the vote. Last week the top picks on the PhilSteele.com fan vote were: Iowa, Stanford, Georgia Tech and South Carolina and all 4 were non-ranked teams that UPSET ranked foes!!
The Top 5 Upset Picks
Top 25 teams that will lose to non-ranked teams today:
1. MICHIGAN (50.5%)
2. GEORGIA TECH (9.9%)
3. MISSISSIPPI (7.6%)
4. PENN ST (5.7%)
5. HOUSTON (4.5%)
Now let’s take a look at my computers teams of the month for September.
