Week 8 College Fantasy Football Sneaky Plays
A special thanks to our friends at CollegeFootballGeek.com for providing us with their Sneaky Plays for Week 8
Do you need roster help this weekend, but missed out on the hot waiver wire pick ups? Here are some sneaky, under-the-radar players who have favorable matchups this week.
Quarterbacks
Matt Barkley QB USC vs. Oregon State:
This super freshman showed what he is capable of last week when he shredded the Notre Dame defense for over 380 yards and 2 scores. This week he faces a terrible Oregon State secondary that is 114th in the country…..jackpot! The Trojans have some revenge on their minds against the Beavers and Barkley should be instrumental in that quest.
Landry Jones QB Oklahoma vs. Kansas:
The Sooners backup quarterback was called into duty once again as Sam Bradford was injured early in the game against Texas. He looked good earlier in the year in a fill in role and this week assuming Bradford is out, he gets to face a shoddy Jay hawks pass defense. I’d expect Oklahoma to pass the ball all over the field so Landry should have an excellent game.
Kevin Riley QB Cal vs. Washington State:
Did I mention that Cal is facing Washington State? My 6 year old godson could light up the Cougar defense, so I’d expect Riley to throw at will early in this contest. He may only play a half in this game, but this Bear should make the most of his playing time.
Jevan Snead QB Ole Miss vs. Arkansas:
This senior has been a huge disappointment thus far in 2009, but he just might turn it around this week against Arkansas. The Razorbacks have shown a propensity to be thrown on this year as evidenced by their 100th ranked pass defense. This match up may be just what the doctor ordered for Snead to right the ship.
Running Backs
Shane Vereen RB Cal vs. Washington State:
See Kevin Riley on this one. The super talented Vereen showed what he can do as he ran for 154 yards and a score last week versus UCLA. This week he should see plenty of carries against an awful Wazzu team and may play the whole second half of the game. I could easily see him duplicating last week’s effort or maybe even exceeding it. Start him and enjoy the show.
Charles Scott RB LSU vs. Auburn:
After starting out the season very slowly, he has shown signs of life recently. This week he gets to face a bad Tigers rush defense which ranks 99th in the country. Traditionally these LSU-Auburn tilts are low scoring affairs, but this year should prove to be different with a bunch of offense.
Wide Receivers
Jeff Fuller WR Texas A&M vs. Texas Tech:
After getting hurt early in the season, this Aggie may have been forgotten about by many fantasy owners. It looks like he will play this week against the Red Raiders and he should find some success. The Aggies will have to throw the ball often to keep pace with the might Texas Tech passing game, which should bode well for Mr. Fuller. Check on his status before game time and if he is playing, I would take a chance.
Hubert Anyiam WR Oklahoma State vs. Baylor:
This Cowboy has formed a good rapport with Zac Robinson and seems to be the main man filling in for Dez Bryant. This youngster was targeted all day long last week against Missouri and he hauled in 10 passes. He should find plenty of room this week against an average Bears secondary.
Alshon Jeffrey WR South Carolina vs. Vanderbilt:
Whenever I see Steve Spurrier run the same jump ball pass play three times in a row, I’m pretty sure he likes the wide receiver on the other end. This big freshman vaulted onto the scene two weeks ago when he caught 138 yards and 3 scores against Kentucky. With Moe Brown likely out this week against Vandy, it’s a pretty safe bet that Jeffrey will be targeted often on Saturday.
Week 8 Sneaky Defenses:
Cal vs. Washington State
Rutgers vs. Army
Kentucky vs. La Monroe
