% of Yards Returning

We are only 40 days away from the official on sale date of my 2010 COLLEGE PREVIEW!!! It goes on sale Tuesday, June 8th and there is a possibility you could see it earlier than that at your local bookstore.

Today I want to look at the % of yards returning for the offenses. I took all of the yards each QB threw for as well as all of the individual rushing yards and receiving yards for each team. I then took all of the returning yards from ’09 for the percentage.

At the top of the chart is Boise St. They return all 11 starters from last years offense including 100% of their rushing yards. The Broncos only lose TE/FB Richie Brockel who had 75 rec yds (9.4) last year. They are followed closely by Washington who returns 10 starters on offense and only loses 45 rush yds and 63 pass yds from last year. Other BCS schools at the top of the list include: North Carolina (98.41%), Virginia Tech (98.38%), Texas Tech (96.53%), Ohio St (95.17%) and Nebraska (94.9%).

At the bottom of the list are three teams that lost OVER 75% of their yards gained from last year. Bowling Green loses QB Tyler Sheehan who threw for more than 4,000 yds last year and Biletnikoff finalist Freddie Barnes who set the NCAA record with 155 receptions last year and had more than 1800 yds rushing and receiving! Kansas loses QB Todd Reesing who threw for 3,616 yds last year and a pair of WRs in Kerry Meier and Dezmon Briscoe who combined for more than 2,300 receiving yards! Memphis lost their #1 and #2 all-time receivers in Duke Calhoun and Carlos Singleton and their #3 all-time RB in Curtis Steele along with QB Will Hudgens who threw for more than 1,500 yds!

I will be back next week to take a look at another experience chart. Have a great week!!!

    Phil,

I'm curious how you came to the conclusion that Northern Illinois is returning only 39.46% of their yards produced. I did my own math and came up with 82.4%, as they only lose a couple backup players on offense.
