Today’s blog will officially start the countdown of my top 30 teams that will appear in the magazine that will hit the news stands on June 8th which is just 20 DAYS AWAY!! Every day now thru June 16th, I will post both magazine pages on each team and you can get an early look on how I breakdown your favorite team.
Today’s Blog is about accuracy. I take great pride in the Accuracy of my predictions in the magazine. I write each of the 120 team previews myself while most of the other magazines have each conference written by a different writer from that conferences area. I put my name on the front of the magazine and my goal each year is to pick every conference perfect. Naturally that is an unreasonable goal but my magazine is the MOST accurate over the past 12 years and it is not really close.
This year, Tim Sullivan who writes for the New York Post was kind enough to write an article on my magazine being the most accurate over the last 12 years. The scores are figured by taking each publication’s forecasting accuracy by comparing the predicted finish with the actual finish of each team in the conference.
In the last 12 years my overall score is 1,683. The closest magazine to me, is Athlon at 1,717. That is a 34 point difference which is almost five touchdowns!!! Keep in mind this chart is similar to Golf scores in that the lower the score the more accurate the magazine. Read more…
Now that the magazine is sent off to the publisher we will be featuring a blog every day Monday thru Friday and a weekend blog now until the start of football season!
It was a rough magazine season as we wanted to get the magazine off to the printers on Tuesday and did not get it done until yesterday afternoon. We will now be focusing our attention to the regional magazines and the NFL magazine.
Last year we put a full color NFL magazine onto the newsstands for the first time and it exceeded my expectations picking 7 of the 8 division winners correctly and we were the ONLY National Preview to pick the Super Bowl Champion New Orleans Saints to win the NFC South with all others picking Atlanta or Carolina!
We are less than a week away from sending my 2010 College Preview off to the presses! The good news is that once the magazine is off to the press on May 12th, we will go back to doing a blog EVERY DAY until the end of the 2010 College Football season!!
