London, England. While SF isdoing a Bowl approach to the game by getting there early and taking in the sights and scenes DEN is doing a shock approach as they will simply get off the plane & go stright to meetings and were told to sleep on the plane. Last week both teams had disappointing results in different fashions as SF had the game in hand up 7 with 4 min left but were picked apart when they went to a prevent defense. DEN meanwhile was crushed 59-14 by OAK and were outgained 508-240. While the Broncos have the better QB, I like SF’s approach to the game better and they get the close win.

For the last couple of years I have picked the games involving the Top 25 teams and thrown in a couple of upset picks. This year I thought you might be interested in who I think will win EACH FBS game this weekend. Every Friday I will give you my personal forecast on every game that involves a FBS team.
I list the projected scores from my computers forecast. Another column shows you the computers yardage forecast for each game. I think it will be interesting to see who the computer picks to win the yardage battle and see if they win the game. In my College Football magazine I have the plus and minus ratings. I update them weekly and then factor in the home edge and I will show you who the Plus Minus ratings forecast. I will also list who Vegas has favored to win each week and we can see how they do picking the actual winners of games. There is also a WEEKLY POLL which you can enter for free each week. What I will do is on Friday morning I will tabulate the vote on each game and list who the fans are picking to win the games.
Listed below are each of these category picks for this week and I will then have a running total for the season for them! Here are the selections……. Read more…

It’s been tough being ranked #1 lately as the top team in either the AP or BCS polls has went down on the road to a ranked team for three straight weeks. This week the Trojans get their turn for the upset as Oregon becomes the first #1 team to travel to the Coliseum since 1988 (Notre Dame). USC is off a bye and could be undefeated if not for two last second losses by a FG to Stanford and Washington. Two weeks ago vs California they had their most complete game of the season jumping out to a 42-0 HT lead and outgained the Bears 602-245 in the 34 pt win. UO is also off another impressive outing as they exploded for 582 yds and 60 pts in the win over UCLA last Thursday. Last year the Ducks put up 613 yds and rolled the Trojans 47-20 giving USC their first loss by over a TD since 2001. USC is playing with revenge, has extra time to prepare and has proven they belong as they nearly beat Top 15 Stanford on the road and demolished Cal in their last two outings as they make it four straight weeks for an upset of the #1 team.

Auburn QB Cam Newton is now the Heisman frontrunner after his amazing performance against a good LSU defense last week but he has also had a direct effect on the fortunes of three teams this year. If you have been following the story of Newton, he originally was recruited by now Miss St HC Dan Mullen when he was the OC at Florida and eventually signed with the Gators. Due to some off the field problems, Newton transferred to Blinn JC where he had a sensational season (PS#2 JUCO). Newton was thought to be heading to Mississippi St this year with his former ties to Mullen but at the last minute decided to go with Auburn. Naturally Newton has had a huge impact on the Tigers and has been the main reason they are 8-0 (BCS #1) and have won 5 games by eight points or less. Take Newton off the team and you maybe looking at a 4-4 record for the Tigers. Meanwhile Miss St is having a great season at 6-2 and their only losses are by 3 pts to a Newton led Auburn team and to LSU on the road where the Bulldogs had a 267-262 yd edge but 5 TO’s by MSU QB’s being the difference. Put Newton on the Bulldogs this season and they maybe sitting at 8-0 and in the BCS Top 5. Finally going back to Newton’s original team Florida, they have struggled to a 4-3 start including two close home losses to LSU and Miss St. Had Newton stayed it might be a different story for the Gators this year adding more fuel to the possible scenarios for all three teams and the rest of the country this season. The Ducks are ranked #1 for the first time in school history and take on a beat-up UCLA team that will be playing without its starting QB Prince. Soph Brehaut (PS#14) gets the start here and has 189 pass yds (50%) with an 0-1 ratio this year. He gets to face my #5 pass eff defense that already has 12 int’s this season. Oregon’s offense is still #1 in the NCAA avg 567 ypg and while UO is looking for a chance to play for the national title, UCLA is just fighting for a chance to become bowl eligible. The Ducks roll in this one and get ready for a huge matchup in the Coliseum next week.
