2011 Preseason All-American Team!

Today I release my 2011 Preseason All-American Teams, which will be featured in my 2011 College Preview magazine. More than 50 different schools are represented and all of the 11 conferences have at least one player on the list. Alabama, Oklahoma and Oregon lead the way with each having three 1st-Team selections while Alabama had more players total (7) than any other school followed by Florida St (6) and Stanford (5) Oklahoma, South Carolina, Miami (Fl), Georgia, and Notre Dame all had four players.

The SEC leads the way with 26 players on my All-American team while the ACC is next with 18 and the Pac-10 is third with 17. Several non-BCS teams had multiple players on the team and naturally were led by powers Boise St (3) and TCU (2) while Houston has 2 as well.

Please check PhilSteele.com everyday to get my Top 30 Countdown which continued yesterday with #16 Stanford. Every day now thru June 15th, I will post both magazine pages on each team that day and you can get an early look on how I breakdown your favorite team. Remember I will make those magazine pages available for only 24 hours for you to download. Today Ohio St comes in at #15.

    LANDRY JONES OVER ANDREW LUCK?!?!?!

  • Mike

As Ted Miller said it, Landry Jones’ parents would have named Andrew Luck 1st Team. And Case Keenum 4th Team after tearing his ACL seems very risky. Darron Thomas would have been a safer bet.

this is Comedy Centyral, right? The writer of the tripe in this article doesn’t know football.

Two things. First my All-American team is more of a projection on what it will look like at season’s end and not necessarily what they are coming into this season. Also An All-American team is different than a NFL Draft Projection. Clearly Luck is the top player in the country for next year’s draft but at the end of the season will he be 1st-Tm All-American and the Heisman Trophy Winner if Stanford has 3 losses? Probably not, while Jones could have his team undefeated and playing for the national title.
    Thanks, Phil

Kellen Moore should be 2nd team at least. Landry Jones first team, please!

is andrew luck a better qb that landry jones? of course. will he go higher in the draft? of course not. but look at the teams surrounding these guys. look at their schedules and offensive schemes. phil steele will most likely be right. everyone is over reacting because they can’t step back and look at the whole picture.

Thanks for the comments! Could not have said it better myself! Andrew Luck is the better QB no doubt but Landry Jones has the better shot at 1st-team All-American for several reasons. First he has a better chance at winning the Heisman since OU will most likely play for the national title and Stanford may lose a couple of games. Also he will put up better stats (more TD’s, more yards) because he has the nation’s #1 WR corps to throw too. Thanks again, Phil

Sam, I have an SEC team winning the national championship with OU losing the title game. I just was saying Landry Jones and the Sooners have a better chance of winning the NC than Andrew Luck and Stanford. Thanks, Phil

Phil I think your predictions for the iowa season is very sub par.. Iowa has the best offensive line in the big ten, and coker will run all over the big ten. Vandeburg will be incredible , remember he shoulda beat osu in his 1st start. Norm parker is back coaching the defense again and norm is a defensive genius.. Iowa has a very easy schedule also. At the MOST, iowa may lose 1 game before the division title game against nebraska that iowa can definetely win also. I think iowa shocks many and faces wisconsin in indy for the big ten title. Iowa has much more talent than theyre getting credit for here and they have a top 15 team.

  • Cagoins88

I agree.. Phil your also very nieve with the ratings and ratings of the iowa hawkeyes. Iowa has a very talented team and at WORST finish with a 10-2 record. They will face wisconsin in the big ten title game in indy,, watch…

Should UNC get a Bowl ban for academic fraud, Agents on staff and dealer cars provided to players?

hi when reading your mag i notice for alabama, miami, and virginia under playing surface: GRASS (P.A.T) what is P.A.T cant find that except point after touchdown

  • http://www.philsteele.com Phil Steele

    Jim,

Excellent Question. It means that their surface is predominately grass but they have partial artificial turf embedded in the grass making them a hybrid field. This is becoming a more popular playing surface for those traditionalists that prefer the grass but need the field to hold up better in extreme weather conditions. It is almost the best of both worlds. Thanks, Phil

Tyrone Walker from Illinois State (WR) has to be on one of these teams. Somewhere somebody dropped the ball. Because he sure does not !
