2011-12 Bowl Projections!!!

Today’s blogs gives you a look at all my bowl projections for the upcoming season. Naturally these projections can be found on page 2 and 16 in my 2011 College Football Preview but I include them on my site because we update the projections as the season progresses and also as the teams accept bowl bids.

New Bowls/Changes:

The Humanitarian Bowl has been renamed the Idaho Potato Bowl. The Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas has replaced the Texas Bowl while the former Meineke Car Bowl will now be called the Belk Bowl. Also there have been some date changes for many bowl games including all New Year’s Day bowl games being played on January 2nd instead of January 1st with New Year’s Day falling on a Sunday (NFL).

Other Bowl Notes:

The order of selection for this year’s BCS games is Fiesta, Sugar, Orange. However, the bowls that lose host conference champions to the BCS title game get to replace those teams before other selections are made.

Notre Dame is eligible for all bowls in which the Big East has a commitment, as well as the BCS. It also serves as the backup for the Big 12 in the Pinstripe Bowl.

Navy will be invited to the Military Bowl if it qualifies for selection while Army will be invited to the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl if it qualifies for selection. For the 2011 season, a 9th bowl-eligible ACC team is next in line to fill either the PAC-12 or Army’s slot, if necessary.

BYU will be invited to the Armed Forces Bowl if it qualifies for selection.

Sun Belt teams with records of 7-5 or better are next in line to fill the Big 10′s slot in the Little Caesar’s Bowl if the Big 10 does not have an eligible team. The Sun Belt is also the first backup for any opening in the St. Petersburg Bowl, and has a secondary provisional agreement for the BBVA Compass Bowl.

Finally Hawaii is automatically invited to the Hawaii Bowl if it has at least 7 wins. Otherwise, the WAC sends its 3rd-place team.

good job this article has no credability liberty bowl matchup will never happen per agreement between cusa, sec and liberty bowl that 2 teams from the same state cant play each other!

  • Chadtm77

I like it but how do you have LSU as the sec champ but still have bama As the number 1??

  • Matt Bufford

Not a Terrapin fan, but why would you not think Maryland would win at least 6 games this year?  They return one of the best QBs in the ACC and clearly have enough of a foundation at that program to contend for a bowl….

  • Ted Bradshaw

@Chadtm77:  LSU would be taking the place of the SEC champ in the Sugar Bowl, since the SEC Champ would be in the BCS Championship Game.

“No credability” is a little extreme for one mistake, considering Phil Steele’s has been one of the most accurate prognostications over the years.

  • Christopher Ryder

I’m a NC State fan, so I’ve gotten some Belk Bowl tickets already. I’m looking forward to it!

A Sugar Bowl matchup between Houston and Michigan would be quite interesting, but it looks like most of the projections out there are pretty close, I found the a pretty good breakdown at http://www.flatearth.tv/2011-bowl-game/
