2012 Conference Realignment: Who’s Playing Where?

December 22nd, 2011 2 comments

Conference realignment has been the talk of college football now for the past two years and while there were some changes for 2011, there are even more scheduled for 2012 and beyond. I have already started to write the 2012 magazine and if you’re like me and are confused with who will be playing where next year, here is a quick conference breakdown for next year as it stands today.

ACC

ATLANTIC COASTAL
Clemson Virginia Tech
Wake Forest Virginia
Florida St Georgia Tech
NC State Miami (FL)
Boston College North Carolina
Maryland Duke

For the 2012 season, the ACC will remain the same. Pittsburgh and Syracuse will officially join the conference in 2014.

Big East

Cincinnati
Louisville
Rutgers
Pittsburgh
Connecticut
South Florida
Syracuse

The Big East loses West Virginia to the Big 12 in 2012 and will lose Syracuse and Pittsburgh to the ACC in 2014. The conference will add Boise St, San Diego St, UCF, Houston and SMU for 2013. Read more…

Final Conference Poll Update!

August 26th, 2011 No comments

This is my third update on how the conference poll voting is shaping up. The last couple of years, I have I put up a poll for everyone to pick who would win each conference game during the year. I found these results fascinating prior to the year. When you vote in the poll, it tabulates the current % of votes for each team in each individual game. Prizes will be awarded at the end of the year for the people who predicted the conference’s most accurately. However, you need to vote on every single game to qualify. You cannot just vote on the six BCS conferences and skip the others. You have only until the end of the weekend to get your votes in!

Here are the current conference standings for all the conferences with the percentages of each game factored in according to your votes.

Projected Conference Standings!

This is my second update on how the conference poll voting is shaping up. The last couple of years, I have I put up a poll for everyone to pick who would win each conference game during the year. I found these results fascinating prior to the year. When you vote in the poll, it tabulates the current % of votes for each team in each individual game. Here is an example of what Alabama’s % look like after you have voted.

Naturally the Crimson Tide are a big favorite in most of their games and even with a showdown vs potential top 5 LSU, 65% of you have the Tide coming out on top.

Prizes will be awarded at the end of the year for the people who predicted the conference’s most accurately. However, you need to vote on every single game to qualify. You cannot just vote on the six BCS conferences and skip the others. You have only until August 27th to get your votes in! Read more…

Who Will Win the Top Conference Games of 2011?

July 23rd, 2011 1 comment

The last couple of years I have put up a poll for everyone to pick who would win each conference game. I found these results fascinating prior to the year. When you vote in the poll, it tabulates the current % of votes for each team in each individual game. Here are the results of the fan poll from 2010.

Two years ago you guys scored a low of 121 points, which was 11 points lower than GamePlan. Some of the conferences and divisions you did the best in were the SEC East (0 pts!), SEC West (4 pts) and the Mountain West (8 pts).  Last year you guys finished right behind Lindy’s and ATS Consultants for 4th place with 116 points.

If you have any questions on the scoring or need further explanation please refer to pages 306-307 of this year’s magazine or visit stassen.com or check out the May 16 Blog.

We put the conference polls up a couple of weeks ago for this year’s games and this is a great way for me to gauge how the public views each game. When you vote you have the entire conference schedule in front of you and the home team is capitalized. To vote you do need to register your e-mail address but this is just to make sure there is no stuffing of the ballot box.

Here are the top games from each conference and how the public views each game to date. Keep in mind these percentages will change between now and the start of the season.

SEC:

  1. LSU (34%) at Alabama (66%). In what could be not only one of the biggest SEC games this year but also a national title elimination game, 66% of you have the Tide getting revenge from last year’s loss. Read more…

The Conference Polls Are Open!!!

The last couple of years I have I put up a poll for everyone to pick who would win each conference game during the year. I found these results fascinating prior to the year. When you vote in the poll, it tabulates the current % of votes for each team in each individual game. Here are the results of the fan poll from 2010.

Two years ago you guys scored a low of 121 points, which was 11 points lower than GamePlan. Some of the conferences and divisions you did the best in were the SEC East (0 pts!) SEC West (4 pts) and the Mountain West 8 points.  Last year you guys finished right behind Lindy’s and ATS Consultants for 4th place with 116 points.

The scores are figured by taking each publication’s forecasting accuracy by comparing the predicted finish with the actual finish of each team in the conference. Keep in mind the chart is similar to Golf scores in that the lower the score the more accurate.

If you have any questions on the scoring or need further explanation please refer to pages 306-307 of this year’s magazine or visit stassen.com or check out the May 16 Blog.

We put the polls up today for this year’s games on the homepage for six conferences and this is a great way for me to gauge how the public views each game. When you vote you have the entire conference schedule in front of you and the home team is capitalized. Get your votes in today and see how the fans think the big games like Oklahoma-Texas, Oregon at Stanford, LSU at Alabama and Ohio St at Nebraksa are going to shake out! To vote you do have register your e-mail address but this is just to make sure there is no stuffing of the ballot box. I will do a complete break down of the fan vote in a couple of weeks!

Also make sure to vote on who you think will win each non-conference game on the homepage. Hundreds of you have already voted on the games and I will be doing a check of the top non-conference games later this week.

Conference vs Conference Records

December 10th, 2009 3 comments

One of the great debates in college football every year is which conference is the best. Fans across the country have their opinions and are usually divided to which area they live in. Many fans living in the Midwest have always felt that the Big 10 has been the best conference, while fans living in the South clearly feel that the SEC is the best. One of the ways in determining who has the best conference is taking the conference vs conference records. Since many schools schedule weaker opponents in their non-conference schedule, another key determination is taking the conference record vs bcs conferences. Read more…
