November 17th, 2011 No comments

Erik Kuselias has been one of the leading Fantasy Football experts in the nation for over a decade. Most notably, while at ESPN (2003-2010) Kuselias was asked to create, host and lead ESPN’s first season long Fantasy football show “Fantasy Football Now.’ In its first season, the show was nominated and won ESPN’s First Fantasy Emmy, claiming honors for Outstanding New Show. With Kuselias, the show moved from an ESPN.com venture over to television garnering huge ratings on ESPN2, and “Fantasy Football Now” became one of the leading shows anywhere on fantasy football.

In 2011, Kuselias signed on with The Golf Channel to host “Morning Drive,” a daily talk show that covers golf as well as other sports. The show debuted on January 3, and can be seen from 7-9 AM ET.

Week 9 Surprise College Fantasy

October 28th, 2011 No comments

Two years ago I started a weekly blog that included my surprise fantasy picks for each week of the college football season. Each week I picked the players that were flying under the radar and I am pleased that I finished my first year at a very successful 83-29-7 (74%). Last year I had another successful year with a winning week every week and an overal 103-45-17 (70%) record.

This year I will again be giving you the surprise fantasy picks each and every week in my Thursday daily blog and here are my picks for Week 3. Keep in mind you will not find players like Andrew Luck, Denard Robinson, LaMichael James or Justin Blackmon in my picks. These are strictly surprise picks of players who are flying under the radar. Last week I went 8-2 including a perfect 6-0 mark with my QB’s and RB’s for a second week in a row!!! I am currently 46-27-9 on the picks so far this season.

QUARTERBACKS:

My QB’s of the Week: Brock Osweiler, Arizona St and Dominique Davis, East Carolina

Brock Osweiler, Arizona St-Osweiler is avg 280 ypg (66%) with a 15-8 ratio and this week takes on a banged up Colorado pass defense that ranks just #100 in my pass defense rankings. My computer projects 310 pass yds for the Devils this week as they and Osweiler roll along to a probable appearance in the first Pac-12 game!

Dominique Davis, East Carolina-I took Davis two weeks ago and he delivered for me and I’m kicking myself for not taking him again last week as he set the NCAA-record with 26 straight completions and completed 40 of 45 passes (89%) for 372 yards and a 2-0 ratio in the win over Navy. This week he takes on a Tulane team that has an interim HC and my computer calls for another big day for Davis and Co. Read more…

2011 Fantasy Sleepers: QBs, RBs, WRs!

August 6th, 2011 No comments

It has come to my attention that many of my most avid readers also play college fantasy football, and this sure seems like a match made in heaven. Statistical analysis and prognostication, my specialties, are the key components of a successful college fantasy football campaign. And as we continue to provide the most thorough and accurate college football analysis, the loyal readers of PhilSteele.com can also look forward to a weekly look at the top college fantasy football players across the nation similar to what we did last year. (Check the blog archives). We’ll provide the data needed to compete in your BCS or conference-only league, and with the help of my friends CollegeFootballGeek.com you’ll be privy to the insider information needed to dominate and hoist the trophy at season’s end.

Here are the 2011 College Fantasy Football Sleepers courtesy of Todd DeVries and Joe Arpasi of CollegeFootballGeek.com

What is the definition of a college fantasy football sleeper?  The answer lies in the eye of the beholder.  Someone new to the fantasy game might consider a player from a smaller school like Western Michigan (quarterback Alex Carder) to be a sleeper, while the savvy fantasy vet would know that Carder is already a proven fantasy commodity. Top College Fantasy Players for 2011!

February 8th, 2011 2 comments

This week will be one of the more popular weeks during the offseason for my daily blog as it will feature my projection of what the AP Preseason Top 10 will be for next season.

Every year I am particularly intrigued by who is placed in the preseason AP Top 10 as I try to predict what those teams will be shortly after the previous season is completed.

Most AP voters usually look at a couple of criteria when they evaluate a team for the upcoming season. First they look at the number of returning starters that the team has coming back particularly at the offensive skill positions.

Another factor that is heavily weighted is the performance of the team in the bowl game, which undoubtedly is the lasting image of that team in the offseason. A team coming off a huge bowl win usually is more highly thought of than a team that is coming off a bowl loss regardless of what their schedule looks like for the upcoming season.

Using these criteria and a few more, I project the preseason AP Top 10 every year at the conclusion of the previous season, which in most cases is nearly 7 months in advance. Now as you all know, a lot can happen from January to August.

Last year way back in a  February Blog, I projected the preseason AP Top 10 would be #1 Alabama, #2 Ohio St, #3 Boise St, #4 Oregon, #5 Texas, #6 TCU, #7 Iowa, #8 Florida, #9 Nebraska and #10 Virginia Tech.

The actual AP Top 10 which came out was #1 Alabama, #2 Ohio St, #3 Boise St, #4 Florida, #5 Texas, #6 TCU, #7 Oklahoma, #8 Nebraska, #9 Iowa and #10 Virginia Tech.

For the second year in a row I nailed nine of the ten teams that appeared in the Preseason Top 10 and I will have this year’s projection later on this week. Read more…
